Ball Aerospace awarded contract for LEO satellite system design

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp (BATC) has been awarded a contract for weather system follow-on microwave and will provide for system design and risk reduction of a low earth orbit satellite with a passive microwave imaging radiometer instrument and hosted government furnished energetic charged particles sensor.

The firm-fixed-price contract, valued around $93.7 million, is awarded by Space and Missile Systems Center located at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California. Fiscal 2017 research, development, test, and evaluation funds in the amount of around $45.8 million will be obligated at time of award.

The contract work will be performed in Boulder, Colorado, with an expected completion date of Nov. 15, 2019.    This contract was a competitive acquisition and two offers were received.
