The Bangladesh Navy frigate, BNS Ali Haider (F 17) and large patrol craft BNS Nirmul (P 813) departed port of Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Feb. 9.
The vessels arrived at the port of Colombo on Feb. 7 on a goodwill visit. Sri Lanka Navy bade farewell to the departing ships in accordance with naval traditions.
During the visit, the ship’s Commanding Officers, Captain ASM Afzalul Haque and Commander ANM Ishtiaq Jahan Farouqee called on the Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Command, Commodore Sanath Uthpala at the Western Naval Command Headquarters. They held cordial discussions and exchanged mementos to mark the occasion.
BNS Ali Haider (F 17)
BNS Ali Haider is a modified Type 053H2 frigate of the Bangladesh Navy, bought in 2014 from China.
The ship was known as Wuhu when it served with People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) East Sea Fleet. In 2013, she was sold to Bangladesh Navy and was commissioned into the fleet on 1 March 2014 as BNS Ali Haider.
BNS Ali Haider is of 103 m long, 11 m wide and have a 3.2 m draught with a displacement of 2000+ tonnes at full load.
The vessel is powered by two diesels driving three propellers for a top speed of 26.5 knots. The range of the ship is 2,700 nautical miles at 18 knots. It has a compliment of 300 crews.
The ship is equipped with two quad-pack C-802A anti-ship missile launchers, two Type 79A dual-100 mm guns, four Type 76 dual-37 mm anti-aircraft guns, two triple torpedo tubes for 324mm torpedoes, two Depth Charge (DC) racks and two Mk-36RBOC 6-barrel decoy rocket launchers.
BNS Nirmul (P 813)
BNS Nirmul is the second Durjoy-class semi stealth large patrol craft (LPC) of the Bangladesh Navy.
She was launched at Wuchang Shipyard in China on September 27, 2012. She reached Bangladesh in February 2013 and was commissioned on August 29, 2013.
BNS Nirmul is of 64.2 m long, 9 m wide and have a 4 m draught with a displacement of 648 tonnes.
The LPC is powered by triple Pielstick diesels driving three propellers for a top speed of 28 knots. The range of the ship is 2,500 nautical miles and endurance is 15 days. It has a compliment of 60 crews.
The ship is armed with a 76.2mm H/PJ-26 naval gun, two Oerlikon 20 mm cannon, four C-704 anti-ship missiles (AShM) and two 6-tube EDS-25A 250mm ASW rocket launcher.
Their primary mission is to protect both the fishing fleets and the oil and gas fields and other Economic Zones. In addition, they can also serve in an anti-ship role as well as undertaking limited anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations.
