The China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) conducted live-fire drills in the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea near Korean Peninsula on Monday, the state run Global Times reported.
According to the report, the Navy has fired several types of missiles during the drills. People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) troops were also involved in the drills.
Three naval fleets participated in Monday’s exercises in the two seas and the drills were part of the navy’s annual schedule, CCTV News reported.
The exercises covered a variety of military equipment, including navy aircraft, submarines, surface warships and coast guard defense systems. The drills also included sea-to-land attacks and air interception.
PLA Navy commander Shen Jinlong and other top military officials oversaw the exercises.
The drills were taking place in the waters between the coast of Qingdao in Shandong province and Lianyungang in Jiangsu province, according to notices from the PLA Navy’s North Sea Fleet and the Shandong Maritime Safety Administration.
The drills come after a three-day naval exercise in the Yellow Sea late last month ahead of the 90th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
