China unveils geological survey variant of CH-4 UAV

China has unveiled a geological survey variant of its CASC CH-4 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed for the China Geological Survey (CGS).

Cai Hong (Rainbow) 4 UAV is developed by China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), also known as the 11th Academy of CASC or the 701st Research Institute.

The CH-4 is a medium altitude long endurance (MALE) UAV capable of a 3500–5000 km range and a 30- to 40-hour endurance.

The drones will be used for aerial survey of mineral resource and are equipped with aerial magnetometers and airborne radiometric detectors to collect and analyze data, providing preliminary information for geological and chemical prospecting.
