China’s Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard (HDZH) has laid the keel for the Pakistan Navy’s second Type 054 A/P frigate, the service announced.
Commodore Azfar Humayun, the Chief Naval Overseer (CNO) China, was the chief guest for the keel-laying ceremony. A Pakistan Navy statement said that the new Type 054 A/P frigates are technologically advanced platforms which will strengthen its “combat capability and maintain peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR)”.

The Pakistan Navy has signed a contract for the delivery of a total of four Type 054 A/P frigates. All four units will be built in China and delivered by 2021.
Type-054 A/P ships are the state-of-the-art frigates equipped with modern anti-surface, anti-subsurface, and anti-air weapons and sensors.
Once constructed, these ships will be the most technologically advanced platforms of the Pakistan Navy which will “strengthen its capability to meet future challenges and maintain peace, stability and power equilibrium in the Indian Ocean Region”.
