The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s guided-missile frigate Yuncheng has participated in a naval multilateral exercise in Bangladesh.
The opening ceremony of the International Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (IMMSAREX) of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) was held on Monday in the waters near Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh President Hamid attended the opening ceremony and welcomed the Chinese frigate. He said that the Indian Ocean’s geographical position is very important and he hopes that all navies will enhance mutual trust and strengthen cooperation to play a more active role in ensuring security and stability in the Indian Ocean and the regional development and prosperity.
This is the third visit to Bangladesh within two years by PLA naval vessels. The deputy chief of staff of the Bangladesh Navy said that the Chinese frigate’s participation in the exercise demonstrated the close ties between the two navies, and hoped that the exercise would further deepen the friendship between the two navies.
Rear Admiral Michael Joseph Noonan, deputy chief of the Royal Australian Navy, said that the Chinese navy is an important force in safeguarding maritime safety and hoped that both sides would strengthen exchanges and enhance mutual trust through bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
Rear Admiral Wang Houbin, director of the PLA Navy delegation to this forum and chief of staff of the South China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, said that China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of international order. The Chinese navy is willing to work with the navies of relevant countries to contribute to maintaining regional peace, enhancing mutual trust and safeguarding maritime security.
On the same day, the guided-missile frigate Yuncheng and other participating warships participated in a fleet parade held by the Bangladesh side. Bangladesh President Hamid and heads of the delegations from participating countries reviewed the fleet from a helicopter.
