Collins Aerospace Opens New Facility to Manufacture Landing Gear for Military Aircraft

Collins Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTC), cut the ribbon on a new Landing Systems facility in Haltom City, Texas, near Fort Worth on Feb. 20.

The 110,000-square-foot facility will manufacture landing gear for military aircraft and perform wheel & brake maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations for airlines in the region. The company expects to create 40 new jobs at the site.

Collins Aerospace has maintained a military landing gear site in Fort Worth since 2012, and is now expanding its landing gear operations by 30 percent with its relocation to the new site. The Haltom City facility will serve as the company’s military landing gear center of excellence, supporting multiple customers and aircraft platforms. The expanded footprint will support increased demand and enable Collins Aerospace to provide continued excellence in customer support through its procurement, supply chain, engineering, program management and operations teams.

At the same time, by adding wheel & brake MRO capability in North Texas, Collins Aerospace will be able to better serve its airline customers in the region. Previously, these customers were served almost exclusively by the company’s wheel & brake MRO sites in Louisville and Los Angeles.

In addition to its new site in Texas, Collins Aerospace’s Landing Systems business also recently announced expansions at its carbon brake manufacturing facilities in Spokane, Washington, and Pueblo, Colorado.
