Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet Intercepts Russian An-12, An-72P Aircraft Over Gulf of Finland

Finnish Air Force F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft, on Quick Reaction Alert (QRA), was scrambled to identify Russian Antonov An-12 and An-72 aircraft in international airspace above the Gulf of Finland on Monday, May 27.

The interception happened around 11 am and the airspace of Finland was not violated by the Russian aircraft, said a statement by Finnish Air Force.

An-72P (Patrulnyi) is an armed border surveillance variant of the Antonov An-72 STOL transport aircraft while An-12BK (Kompleks) is a variant of Antonov An-12 (NATO reporting name: Cub) four-engined turboprop transport aircraft with improved avionics.
