First Russian Il-76 Aircraft Arrives in Italy with Specialists and Equipment for Coronavirus Fight

The first Il-76 military transport aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) with an advanced group of Russian military specialists and equipment for diagnostics and disinfection measures arrived at the Italian Air Force’s Pratica di Mare Air Base, 30 kilometers southwest of Rome, Italy on March 22.

After clarifying and agreeing with the Italian side of the areas of deployment, Russian military doctors and virologists will begin to perform tasks to help the Italian Republic in the fight against coronavirus infection.

Russia earlier announced that it would send nine Ilyushin Il-76 airlifters of the Russian military transport aviation to Italy to assist the country in the fight against coronavirus. The deployment is according to the decree of the Russian Minister of Defence, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
