“Congratulations Sweden for receiving an amazing aircraft that will constitute the backbone of Swedish defence”, said Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist.
Saab announced earlier this month that the first serial produced Swedish Gripen E, with serial number 6002, had performed its maiden flight. The maiden flight was conducted from Saab factory’s runway in Linköping, Sweden. This test flight was dedicated to verify the basic handling and flying qualities of the aircraft.
The first serial aircraft displayed a new camouflage pattern designed with three shades of grey, inspired by the Swedish Armed Forces M90 camouflage uniform.
The joint verification and validation programme is to further expand the aircraft’s flight envelope as well as testing of tactical system and sensors.

The Saab Gripen E (Gripen JAS 39E) is the latest variant of the JAS 39 Gripen single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab. JAS 39F is the two-seat version of the aircraft.
The main modifications include the adoption of a new powerplant (General Electric F414G in place of Volvo RM12), an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, and significantly increased internal fuel capacity.
Sweden and Brazil have ordered the Gripen E/F aircraft. Brazil’s designation for JAS 39E variant is F-39E am for the JAS 39F variant is F-39F.
