AM General LLC was awarded a contract modification to procure an additional 60 vehicles for the M1167 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles Recapitalization program for the U.S. Army National Guard.
The modification, worth around $12 million, was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC) located in Warren, Michigan. Fiscal 2017 other procurement (Army) funds for the amount were obligated at the time of the award.
Work will be performed in Mishawaka, Indiana, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 31, 2018.
The M1167 is an Expanded Capacity TOW or Armament Carrier HMMWV. The M1167 provides superior protection for crew, weapons components and ammunition.
Along with the TOW missile launcher, the M1167 provides for the ring-mounting and firing of various weapons systems with a 360-degree arc of fire.
The M1167 is able to stow a minimum of six missiles mounted in the cargo area and is available with a Manual Traversing Unit and a TOW Gunners Protection Kit.
High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), commonly known as the Humvee, is a four-wheel drive military light truck produced by AM General.
It has largely supplanted the roles previously performed by the original jeep, and others such as the Vietnam War-era M151 jeep, the M561 “Gama Goat”, their M718A1 and M792 ambulance versions, the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV), and other light trucks.
Primarily used by the United States military, it is also used by numerous other countries and organizations and even in civilian adaptations. The Humvee’s widespread use in the Gulf War of 1991, where it negotiated the treacherous desert terrain, helped inspire civilian Hummer versions.
After going through a replacement process, the Oshkosh Defense Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) was chosen as its successor.
