German Army EC135 Helicopter Crashes in Lower Saxony Killing Pilot

A Eurocopter EC135 helicopter, operated by the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), has crashed near Hameln in Lower Saxony killing one and injuring other.

The helicopter crashed into a cornfield in Dehmkerbrock at 14:00 local time on July 1 starting a fire which was extinguished by the fire department.

The Federal Minister of Defense, Ursula von der Leyen, and Chief of Staff German Army, Lieutenant General Jörg Vollmer, arrived at the scene of crash. The army mourns with the family members of the victim and wishes the injured a speedy recovery, said a German Army statement.

The training helicopter belonged to the German Army Aviation Corps (Heeresfliegertruppe) and was assigned to International Helicopter Training Center (Internationales Hubschrauberausbildungszentrum, IHAZ) based at Bückeburg Air Base. An investigation is ordered to find the cause of the accident.
