German Army Selects Next-Generation L3 Night Vision Technology for Improved Targeting

L3 Technologies announced that it has received a purchase order from its German distributor, IEA Mil-Optics GmbH, valued at more than $10 million to supply the German Army with Fusion Goggle Enhanced (FGE) night vision systems featuring state-of-the-art white phosphor image intensifier (I2) tubes.

L3’s FGE is a dual-waveband, helmet-mounted goggle that provides improved situational awareness, targeting and identification over standard night vision goggles for enhanced night observation and lethality.

“These next-generation capabilities give our German customer an advantage through more effective assessment of threats and engagement of targets,” said Lynn Bollengier, Vice President and General Manager of L3 Warrior Mission Solutions. “The FGE is an example of L3’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to our international partners to combat threats and help make the world a safer place.”

Developed and assembled at L3’s Integrated Land Systems headquarters in Londonderry, New Hampshire, which is part of the company’s ISR Systems business segment, the FGE uses I2 technology fused with thermal imagery, thereby bridging the gap in performance and capability for both of these sensors. The I2 tube is manufactured at the company’s Electron Tube Operations facility in Tempe, Arizona. The thermal sensor is produced by L3 Space & Sensors located in Mason, Ohio.

The fused technology provides next-generation targeting and identification in all battlefield conditions and light levels.
