HDT Global’s Hunter WOLF Selected for Next Phase of U.S. Army RCV-L Program

HDT Global (HDT) announced that the HDT Hunter WOLF has been selected for the next phase of the Army Robotic Combat Vehicle-Light (RCV-L) project.

In response to a request from the Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center, HDT – along with 12 other competitors – submitted white papers and participated in an Oral Review on August 6 in Michigan. The down-select announcement was issued on Friday, October 18, 2019, with HDT Expeditionary Systems, Inc. named one of four candidates to move to the next phase of this program.

The HDT Hunter WOLF for RCV-L is a rugged 6×6 all-terrain robotic vehicle with 130 peak horsepower and a top speed of 25 mph. It can operate for more than 72 hours without resupply and features an internal 20 kW generator that can export up to 15 kW of power. The Hunter WOLF can climb a 60% grade and can traverse narrow trails, steep slopes and dense jungles.

“The Hunter WOLF’s modular architecture and full compliance with the Army’s interoperability protocols makes the vehicle easy to adapt to mission requirements,” added Dr. Tom Van Doren, Vice President and General Manager – Blade Center. “Although originally developed for the Army SMET program, the Hunter WOLF’s demonstrated adaptability makes it the ideal candidate for the RCV-L program.”

The U.S. Army shortlisted four teams for the Robotic Combat Vehicle-Light (RCV-L) competition, according to an announcement by National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC).

The four teams are HDT Global, Oshkosh, Qinetiq North America (QinetiQ NA) partnering with Pratt & Miller, and Textron.

Textron Systems, along with its subsidiary Howe & Howe Technologies and partner FLIR Systems, Inc., is offering the Ripsaw M5 tracked unmanned ground vehicle for the RCV-L program.

QinetiQ North America (QNA) and Pratt and Miller Defense will submit a variant of Pratt & Miller’s Expeditionary Modular Autonomous Vehicle (EMAV) for the program.

The offering by Oshkosh is currently not known.
