Indian Air Force Inducts Dornier Do 228 Airfield Calibration Aircraft

The Indian Air Force (IAF) formally inducted a Dornier Do 228 Airfield Calibration aircraft during a ceremony at Air Force Station Palam on Dec. 31.

The induction ceremony was attended by Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria. The new aircraft will be operated by the IAF’s No 41 Squadron ‘Otters’.

The modified Dornier 228 aircraft have been acquired to undertake in-house calibration of Navigational aids available after implementation of Modernised Airfield Infrastructure (MAFI) at IAF bases. While the first aircraft was delivered in Nov. 19, the second is expected to be delivered in early 2020.

The Airfield Calibration Dorniers, built by state-owned aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), are fitted with state of the art Flight Inspection System (FIS) and Ground Maintenance Support System (GMSS) calibration systems.
