An Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed near the HAL airport in Bengaluru (Bangalore) on Feb. 1 killing both its pilots.
The incident took place at 10.30 am, and the jet was reportedly on the takeoff roll for an acceptance sortie after it was upgraded by the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
The pilots involved in the crash were identified as IAF Squadron Leader Sameer Abrol and Sqn. Ldr. Siddarth Negi.
The IAF operates 50 French-made Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft which are in the process of being upgraded. The jets entered IAF service in 1985.
