Indian Army Solider Tests Positive for COVID-19

An Indian Army soldier tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) marking the first positive case in the 1.3 million-strong force, according to local reports.

The 34-year-old soldier is a Lance Naik (equivalent to Lance corporal) assigned to the Army’s infantry regiment, Ladakh Scouts.

According to reports, he contracted the virus from his father who had recently travelled to Iran for pilgrimage. The soldier is being given treatment while his family, including his sister, wife and children, have been put in quarantine in Ladakh.
