Iveco Defence Vehicles Receives Order from Romanian Armed Forces for 942 High Mobility Trucks

Italian military vehicle manufacturer, Iveco Defence Vehicles has received an order on Dec. 30, 2019, to supply 942 high mobility trucks to the Romanian Armed Forces.

This is the first order under the framework agreement signed between the Romanian Ministry of National Defence and Iveco Defence Vehicles for more than 2900 high mobility trucks. The framework agreement calls for the procurement of four types of military logistic platforms – 4×4, 6×6, 8×8 and 8×8 Prime Mover (tractor unit) – from Iveco Defence Vehicles’ high mobility truck range in 16 different variants, of which approximately a third are with armored cabin.

The first 942 vehicles, which were ordered last month, will be delivered throughout four years starting from 2020.

“This important achievement is testament to the satisfaction of the Romanian Armed Forces with the two previous contracts for 57 high mobility trucks in 2015 and 173 in 2017, and contributes to further strengthen the relationship between the Romanian Ministry of National Defence and Iveco Defence Vehicles, enhancing the company’s position as a key military truck supplier”, said an Iveco statement.

Iveco Defence Vehicles’ High Mobility range of 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 battle-proven trucks is designed to have the protection and mobility to meet demanding specialist military logistic applications. Some variants of this family are also air-transportable in a C-130 Hercules tactical airlifter.

This range of purpose-designed vehicles offers exceptional mobility and an unprepared fording capability of 850mm, providing tactical support to military operations in the most hostile environmental conditions, from -32C to +49C.

The trucks are equipped with Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), black-out lights, dual-fuel engines, self-recovery winches and tactical axles.

The High Mobility Product Range can be readily customized to match specific user needs by virtue of its modular design, which embraces both the cab and the driveline. Crew survivability has also been accorded a high priority: the whole range can be equipped with a new generation of appliqué armour kits providing both anti-mine and ballistic protection. To ensure that these vehicles retain their outstanding flexibility and adaptability, the appliqué armour can be readily fitted and removed in the field.
