Australia accepted an offer from Japan to support its bushfire response, by providing two C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, the Australian Department of Defence announced.
The Japan Self-Defense Force (JASDF) aircraft will transport military and civilian personnel involved with firefighting, as well as equipment required for recovery efforts. The aircraft will be based at Royal Australian Air Force Base Richmond in New South Wales.
As bushfires continue to impact vast areas of Australia, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has made a significant contribution to support the bushfire response and recovery effort. The ADF operation is named Operation Bushfire Assist 2019-2020.
Minister for Defence Linda Reynolds welcomed Japan’s generous offer to deploy two transport aircraft and associated personnel to Australia.
“Japan’s offer of support is deeply appreciated by the Australian people and demonstrates the strength of the friendship between Australia and Japan,” Minister Reynolds said.
