Wojskowe Zakłady Uzbrojenia S.A. (WZU) and Jelcz sp. z o.o. signed a subcontracting agreement on Sept. 23 for the supply of vehicles intended for the transport of Polish Army’s new Wisła missile system.
Under the agreement, WZU will build eight special transporters – Transporter & Loader Vehicles (STZs) – on Jelcz chassis. WZU and Jelcz are companies of Polish state-owned holding company PGZ (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A., “Polish Armaments Group”).
The new vehicles will also be equipped with communication and IT systems. Delivery of vehicles is scheduled for 2021-2022.
The 8×8 tractor units covered by the contract, along with the 4×4 vehicles, are currently undergoing an intensive, several-month-long process of verification tests at the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology in Sulejówek.
The high mobility of the “Wisła” system will be ensured thanks to a wide range of 8×8 and 4×4 vehicles, which Jelcz supplies to many companies from the PGZ-Wisła consortium, said Sławomir Kaleta, President of the Management Board of Jelcz sp. Z oo
The missile batteries delivered to Poland in the first phase of the “Wisła” program will be equipped with launchers manufactured in the national defense industry at Huta Stalowa Wola SA, with a significant share in the production of their components by other companies from the PGZ Group, such as Jelcz and WZU.
The PGZ-Wisła consortium responsible for the implementation of the “Wisła” program consists of fourteen entities: PGZ SA (consortium leader), Huta Stalowa Wola SA, Mesko SA, PIT-Radwar SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Elektroniczne SA, Jelcz sp. Z oo, Autosan sp. z oo, Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowe Centrum Techniki Morskiej SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Uzbycji SA, Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze no. 1 SA, Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze no. 2 SA, PCO SA from the PGZ Group will take part in the “Wisła” program as sub-suppliers.
Poland is procuring Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) system through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program for the WISŁA program.
