KRAS Receives $100M Order to Supply Barak-8/ MRSAM Missile Kits for Indian Army and Air Force

Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS) has received a $100 million contract from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, on July 11, to supply BARAK 8/ MRSAM missile kits in support of Indian Army/ Air Force requirements.

KRAS is a Joint Venture between Israel’s RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and India’s Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd. (KSSL).

According to the order, KRAS will manufacture 1,000 BARAK 8/ MRSAM missile kits to be supplied to Indian state-owned company Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), which manufactures the missile, via Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the primary developer of the missile, for further integration purposes.

Brigadier General (res.) EVP Pini Yungman, Head of RAFAEL’s Air Defense Systems Division emphasized KRAS’s commitment to the operational readiness of the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.

Barak 8, also known as LR-SAM or as MR-SAM, is an Indian-Israeli surface-to-air missile (SAM) jointly developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Israel’s Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure (Maf’at), IAI Elta Systems, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and other companies.

The missile is designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAVs, as well as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and combat jets.
