Six Lithuanian soldiers serving at al Asad Airbase in Iraq as part of the Danish Contingent have been temporarily repositioned to a military base in Kuwait, Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense said in a statement.
The repositioning also involved all military instructors, except for the mission leadership and force protection personnel, assigned to the Danish Contingent,
The decision was taken by consensus of the mission leadership and countries in the coalition. Taking into account the deteriorating security situation, international commanders took additional measures to ensure personnel protection: security level at military bases was elevated, limitations were placed on military personnel movement, training activities were halted. As soon as the situation in the region allows resuming the training mission, all military personnel will go back to the area of operation.
Commitments of the Lithuanian Armed Forces to our coalition partners stand, added the statement.
