A Mexican Air Force MD 530F helicopter crashed on the runway at El Zorrillo Airport in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo in Chihuahua on Jan. 19 leaving four crew members injured.
The incident occurred while the helicopter was trying to land at the airport after flying from the municipality of Badiraguato in Sinaloa state, according to Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defense (La Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional, SEDENA).
The four crew members, who were injured to various degrees, were taken to the Mazatlan Regional Military Hospital by an Air Force Bell 412 helicopter, said General Luis Cresencio Sandoval González, head of SEDENA.
Initial reports say the pilot apparently lost control while performing landing maneuvers leading to the crash. The helicopter sustained substantial damage in the incident.
An investigation was ordered into the incident.
