Mortar Bombs Hit Balad Air Base in Iraq Hosting U.S. Troops

Seven mortar bombs fell inside Balad Air Base located 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, Iraq on Jan. 12 injuring four Iraqi soldiers, Reuters reported citing military sources.

According to the sources, the mortar bombs fell in the base’s runway. The base also houses American troops.

Further details on the attack are currently unavailable.

According to reports, some 5,200 US soldiers are stationed at bases across Iraq to support local troops fighting against the Islamic State group.
