North Korea has recently tested a new “ultramodern tactical weapon,” a report released by North Korean state media said on Friday.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) gave no details on the type of the weapon, saying only it had been developed over a long period. It added that the test took place at the “test ground of the Academy of Defence Science.”
The news agency also added that the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed “great satisfaction” over the “state-of-the-art” weapon that “builds impregnable defences of our country and strengthens the fighting power of our people’s army”.
The weapon is speculated to be a piece of long-range artillery such as a multiple rocket launcher.
This is North Korea’s first official report of a weapons test in a year, with the last one being the launch of the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in November last year.
