NSPA Enhances Luxembourg’s Cyber Defence Capabilities

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will deliver a cyber range to the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence, allowing the Grand Duchy to enhance its cyber defence capabilities.

The new cyber range will be hosted by NSPA.

The cyber range is an IT-system simulation platform that allows a highly capable training environment, preparing cyberteams for a better protection against potential cyber threats. NSPA has awarded a three-years contract to CybExer Technologies, an Estonian cyber security company, for the establishment of the cyber range. In addition to the cyber range, CybExer will also provide dedicated trainings and ensure the operation and maintenance of the range throughout the contract period.

Cyber defence is part of NATO’s core task of collective defence. NSPA has worked for many years with its Host Nation, Luxembourg, on a number of initiatives to adapt to the evolving threat landscape and develop robust cyber defence capabilities. The cyber range is another example of this collaboration. Through the new platform, Luxembourg and NSPA will continue sharing knowledge and capabilities to better deter and fight potential threats.

“Shortage of experts is one of the main challenges in cyber security, this unique training environment is going the help Luxembourg to fill the gap and we are pleased to be able to make it happen,” said Dr Sergio Coronado, NSPA Chief Information Officer.

“We have invested massively in connectivity and IT infrastructures over the last years, with the aim of becoming a ‘smart nation’ and one of the most dynamic digital economies in Europe. All of this requires protection and with our national cybersecurity strategy we are aiming, together with NSPA and CybExer, at building a highly capable training environment, that can prepare our cyber security teams forthe most advanced threats,” said Ben Fetler, Cyber Security Project Manager at the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence.
