Pakistan Air Force F-16 Fighter Aircraft Crashes in Islamabad, Pilot Killed

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-16 fighter aircraft crashed near Shakarparian in Islamabad on Wednesday morning killing the pilot.

The aircraft was conducting rehearsals for the 23rd March (Pakistan Day) parade when the incident occurred. The pilot was identified as Wing Commander Noman Akram.

“Pakistan Air Force reports with regret that a PAF F-16 aircraft crashed near Shakarparian, Islamabad during the rehearsals of 23rd March parade,” said a PAF statement.

Footage on social media showed a large plume of smoke billowing into the sky after the plane plummeted to the ground.

A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident, the PAF statement added. There were no immediate reports of ground causalities in the incident.
