Pentagon Identifies Special Forces Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The U.S. Department of Defense announced, on Dec. 23, the death of a special forces soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.

The deceased was identified as Sgt. 1st Class Michael J. Goble, 33, of Washington Township, New Jersey. He died on Dec. 23, as a result of injuries sustained while his unit was engaged in combat operations on Dec. 22, 2019, in Kunduz Province, Afghanistan.

The incident is under investigation.

Goble was assigned to 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
