Pentagon Identifies Special Forces Solider Killed in Afghanistan

The U.S. Department of Defense, on Sept. 17, announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy W. Griffin, 40, from Greenbrier, Tennessee, was killed in action on Sept. 16, by small arms fire when his unit was engaged in combat operations in Wardak Province, Afghanistan. Griffin was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

The incident is under investigation, said a statement by the DoD.
