The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received a new 15-meter high-speed patrol boat from Japan on Nov. 11 to support the service’s anti-terrorism operations.
The 15-m patrol boat, according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Vice Admiral Joel S Garcia, will further enhance the country’s maritime safety, security, and law enforcement, as well as marine environmental protection and maritime search and rescue.
Vice Admiral Garcia added that the patrol boat is suitable for quick-response operations and retrieval missions. It is also capable of going after terrorists, intruders, and poachers within the Philippine territory.
Garcia said the donation of the patrol boat is part of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s promise to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to improve the anti-piracy and anti-terrorism capability of the country.
