Italian aircraft manufacturer, Piaggio Aerospace had resumed flight test activity for the second prototype of its P.1HH HammerHead multipurpose Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) at Birgi Military Airport in Trapani, the company announced in a statement.
P.1HH is based on the Piaggio P.180 Avanti airframe and is designed for airborne, marine and terrestrial surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
The system is entirely designed, developed and manufactured in Italy in partnership with Leonardo subsidiary, Selex ES. Leonardo will provide flight control systems and remote-controlled navigation and mission systems including SeaSpray 7300E R radar , the communication interface and tactical data links.
The company claims that the P.1HH is the only remotely piloted MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) system in Europe. It consists of two remotely piloted aerial vehicles (UAV), a Ground Control Station and integrated navigation and mission systems.
The first deliveries of the system are planned in 2018.
