The Indian Ministry of Defence and Russia’s defense exports/imports agency, JSC Rosoboronexport, signed a contract on Sept. 12 for modernization of radar and missile systems onboard Indian Navy P-15 Delhi-class guided-missile destroyers.

The modernization of air defense missile system and the MR-755 Fregat-MAE E-band air and surface search radar would substantially enhance the Air Defence capability of the P-15 Ships, said an Indian Ministry of Defence statement.

As part of the scope of work under modernisation, major overhaul and refurbishment of sub systems would be undertaken in India. In addition, manufacturing of critical hardware would also be undertaken in partnership with the Indian industry, the statement added.

The Delhi-class is a class of three guided-missile destroyers of the Indian Navy. They were the largest vessels to be built in India at the time of their commissioning.

The ships of the class are INS Delhi (D61), INS Mysore (D60) and INS Mumbai (D62).
