A Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) L-39ZA Albatros jet trainer crashed in Chiang Mai on Thursday (July 11), killing one pilot and injuring another.
The deceased was identified as Teerawat Koonkhunthod, an instructor pilot, and the injured was identified as Naruepon Lertkuson, a trainee pilot.
According to RTAF pokesman Pongsak Semachai, the aircraft was conducting a training flight. He added that officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The crashed Albatros was assigned to the 411 Squadron ‘Thunder’ (41st Wing) based at RTAFB Chiang Mai.
L-39ZA/ART is the Thai version of L-39ZA, an armed training and light attack variant of Aero L-39 Albatros high-performance jet trainer developed in Czechoslovakia by Aero Vodochody.
