Russia donates small arms, military truck to Philippines

Russia has donated a consignment of military hardware containing small arms and military trucks to Philippines on Wednesday, Oct.25, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced.

The handing over ceremony took place in the Manila port on board of the Russian Navy Pacific Fleet’s Udaloy-class destroyer destroyer, Admiral Panteleyev. During the ceremony, Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu handed over the consignment to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

The consignment includes 20 multi-purpose vehicles, 5,000 AK-74M Kalashnikov assault rifles, 1 million ammunition and 5,000 steel helmets.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sergei Shoigu laid a wreath at the José Protasio Rizal monument, the National Hero of the Philippines.

On Tuesday, October 24, an intergovernmental military and technical agreement between Russian and the Philippines was signed by Sergei Shoigu and his counterpart Delfin Lorenzana. It took place at the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus in Clark, the Philippines.
