Russia will supply six Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets to Myanmar, according to an agreement reached during Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu’s visit to the country, Russian Deputy Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Alexander Fomin said on Monday.
According to statement from Russian MOD, the visit of Sergei Shoigu has given additional impetus to military and technical cooperation between Russia and Myanmar and Myanmar is actively procuring the Russian armaments and military hardware, including the fighter jets.
Fomin expressed confidence that the warplanes would become the main fighter jets of the Myanmar’s Air Force to protect territorial integrity and repel terrorist attacks.
The Sukhoi Su-30 (Russian: Сухой Су-30; NATO reporting name: Flanker-C) is a twin-engine, two-seat supermaneuverable fighter aircraft developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Aviation Corporation. It is a multirole fighter for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface deep interdiction missions.
It is the main fighter jet in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS).
