Russian Navy Oceanographic Research Ship Admiral Vladimirsky Departs Mumbai, India

The Russian Navy oceanographic research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky departed Mumbai, India on Feb. 15 after a brief port visit, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced.

During the port call, the Indian Naval Training Centre delegates visited the ship. Besides, Mr. Andrei Zhiltsov, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai, also paid a visit to the ship. He wished sailors good luck in researching. The ship crew made excursions to the museums and toured the sights of the city.

The ship, assigned to the Navy’s Baltic Fleet, also replenished fuel, water and food supplies at the port of Mumbai.

The vessel sailed from home station in Kronstadt on Dec. 15 for long-distance mission within the 2nd international expedition in the Indian Ocean under the auspices of the UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC-UNESCO).

The vessel Admiral Vladimirsky has the mission to perform hydro-meteorological survey in order to update hydrographical charts through the Baltic, Northern, Mediterranean, and Red seas as well as in the Indian Ocean and north-east Atlantic Ocean. The main goal of the expedition is a complex oceanographic research in the Indian Ocean.

Admiral Vladimirsky is a Project 852 (Poland) type oceanographic research vessel of the Russian Navy built at Szczecin Shipyard (Stocznia Szczecińska) in Poland.

The vessel has a length of 146.6 m and a displacement of 9140 tonnes at full load.

The vessel is powered by two 8000 hp Zgoda-Sulzer 16ZVB40/48 diesel engines driving two fixed pitch propellers and one bow thruster. It is equipped with four 800 kW diesel-generators and one 115 kW diesel-generator.

The ship can achieve a maximum speed of around 20 knots, has a range of 24,000 nmi at a speed of 15.4 knots and has an endurance of 90 days.

The vessel is equipped with MR-231 navigation radar (by replacing MR-212/201-01 Vaygach), two MR-415 Poisk navigation radars (by replacing Don navigation radars).

Th vessel can accommodate 148+36 personnel and has flight deck capable of embarking one Kamov Ka-25 naval helicopter.
