Russian Navy submarine fires Kalibr cruise missiles at Deir-ez-Zor, Syria

The Russian Navy’s attack submarine has fired a salvo of Kalibr long-range cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea at ISIS (Islamic State, ISIL, Daesh) militant targets in Syria’s Deir al-Zor province, the Ministry of Defence announced.

The strike were conducted by Veliky Novgorod (B-268), a Project 636.3 Improved Kilo-class diesel-electric attack submarine assigned to the Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, in an effort to support a Syrian Army offensive.

As a result of the strike with three cruise missiles, terrorists’ command posts, a fortified area where militants and armored vehicles were present, as well as a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition of Daesh terrorists near the Abu Kemal settlement in the Deir ez-Zor province have been destroyed.
