Russian Navy submarines fire Kalibr cruise missiles at Targets in Syria

Two Russian Navy submarines have fired 10 Kalibr long-range cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea at militant targets in Syria’s Deir al-Zor province, RT reported citing the Ministry of Defence.

The strike were conducted by Project 636.3 Improved Kilo-class diesel-electric attack submarines assigned to the Navy’s Black Sea Fleet, Veliky Novgorod (B-268) and Kolpino (B-271) in an effort to support a Syrian Army offensive.

According to the ministry, Russian surveillance detected Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) targets in Deir-ez-Zor province, including command centers, large ammunition depots and hangars housing terrorists’ armored vehicles before the strike.
