Russia’s new Project 21180 diesel electric icebreaker, Ilya Muromets will leave the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg for state trials on Oct. 4, Wednesday.
In course of state tests, all specifications and systems of the icebreaker Ilya Muromets are to be checked. It includes the operating of radio navigation and other radars, lifting gear, life support systems, propulsion systems, and anchor equipment.
Previously, on August 25, the icebreaker has finished the second stage of factory sea trails, which took place at the Gulf of Finland and waters of Baltiysk. The test schedule included helicopter taking off and landing drills on the icebreaker.

Ilya Muromets is a Project 21180 diesel electric icebreaker built by theAdmiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg for the Russian Navy.
The vessel is almost 278 feet long, 65 feet wide and has a displacement of 6,000 metric tons. It has an operational range of 12,000 nautical miles and two-month endurance.
The vessel’s design incorporates new electric propulsion principles and a modern power plant.
It is capable of navigating through ice up to 2.9 feet thick, carrying cargo in its hold and in containers on the upper deck, performing hydrographic studies and participating in rescue operations.
The vessel can be used to extinguish fires at facilities, clean-up emergency oil spills, and transport troops. In order to perform loading and unloading operations, the icebreaker is equipped with a crane able to carry 26 tons.
The ship will have a crew complement of 32. It can launch and recover helicopter on its bow helipad.
The icebreaker will join the Russian Navy before the end of this year.
