Three Irish Soldiers Injured in IED Explosion in Mali

Three Irish Defence Forces personnel, deployed with the United Nations MINUSMA mission in Mali, sustained minor injuries when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded close to their convoy on Feb. 25.

The soldiers were conducting a patrol east of their base in Gao when the IED explosion occurred.

The injured personnel have received medical treatment and are safe and well and their next of kin and families have been contacted, said a statement from the Irish Defence Forces.

The Defence Forces conduct intensive pre-deployment mission training in order to prepare our personnel for such an incident, the statement added.
