The White Hose has released a statement, on July 17, regarding the delivery of the Russian S-400 Triumf advanced air defense systems to Turkey.
The statement said that Turkey’s continued participation in the U.S.-led F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program was rendered impossible following the purchase since the capabilities and vulnerabilities of the advanced fighter aircraft will be known to the Russians.
“Unfortunately, Turkey’s decision to purchase Russian S-400 air defense systems renders its continued involvement with the F-35 impossible. The F-35 cannot coexist with a Russian intelligence collection platform that will be used to learn about its advanced capabilities”, said the statement.
The statement said that “accepting the S-400 undermines the commitments all NATO Allies made to each other to move away from Russian systems” adding that the purchase “will have detrimental impacts on Turkish interoperability with the Alliance.”
According to White House, the Trump Administration has made multiple offers to move Turkey to the front of the line to receive the U.S. PATRIOT air defense system but was reportedly declined by Ankara.
