Two U.S. Air Force T-38 Talon trainer aircraft, assigned to the Vance Air Force Base, were involved in a mishap at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Nov. 21 killing two Airmen, according to a statement from the USAF’s 71st Flying Training Wing (71 FTW).
At the time of the accident, the aircraft were performing a routine training mission and there were two people on board each aircraft, the statement said. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Vance emergency response personnel are on scene to treat casualties and assist in recovery efforts. A safety investigation team will investigate the incident.
Vance AFB is a USAF base located in southern Enid, Oklahoma, about 65 mi (105 km) north northwest of Oklahoma City. The host unit at Vance is the 71st Flying Training Wing (71 FTW), which is a part of the USAF Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The unit operates T-38 Talon, T-1 Jayhawk and Beechcraft T-6 Texan II trainer aircraft.
