The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale of one additional UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter and related equipment to the Government of Jordan for an estimated cost of $23 million.
The sale is being executed through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which oversees FMS sales, delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on July 7.
Jordan already has the UH-60M capability and the new UH-60M will supplement Jordan’s existing Royal Squadron fleet of Black Hawk helicopters and be used to facilitate the movement of the Jordanian Royal Family in a safe and efficient manner.
The Government of Jordan has earlier requested to buy one UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter in standard U.S. Army configuration with standard Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), including two T700-GE-701D turboshaft engines and one Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). Also included in the sales package are one AN/APR-39 Radar Signal Detecting Set (RSDS); one AN/AVR-2B Laser Detecting Set (LDS); two AN-ARC-231 Radios; two (2) AN-ARC-201D Radios; one AN/APX-123A Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponder; two Embedded Global Positioning System with Inertial Navigation (EGIs); one Common Missile Warning System User Data Module; Aviation Mission Planning System (AMPS); AMPS software development and support services; and other related elements of logistical, engineering, and program support.
The principal contractors will be Sikorsky Aircraft Company, Stratford, CT and General Electric Aircraft Company, Lynn, MA.
According to a DSCA statement, this proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.
UH-60M Black Hawk
The UH-60M Black Hawk is one of the newer variants of Sikorsky’s venerable Black Hawk helicopter family.
Compared to the earlier UH-60A and UH-60L variants, the UH-60M incorporates upgraded T700-GE-701D engines, improved wide chord rotor blades, and state of the art electronic instrumentation, flight controls and aircraft navigation control.
The Sikorsky Black Hawk is the primary medium-lift helicopter for the U.S. Army performing a wide range of
missions that encompass Air Assault, Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), Combat Search And Rescue (CSAR), Command and Control (C2), and VIP transport.
