U.S. Army Soldier Killed in Combat Operations in Afghanistan

The U.S. Department of Defense, on July 14, announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.

The deceased was identified as Sgt. Maj. James G. Sartor, 40, of Teague, Texas. He died on July 13, in Faryab Province, Afghanistan, as a result of injuries sustained from enemy small arms fire during combat operations.

Maj. Sartor was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado.

This incident is under investigation, said a DoD statement.
