U.S. DOD Identifies Marine Casualties in Afghan IED Attack

The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has identified the names of three Marines who were killed in a improvised explosive device (IED) attack on a convoy near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan on April 8.

The following Marines died April 8 while conducting combat operations in Parwan province, Afghanistan while supporting Operation Resolute Support:

Cpl. Robert A. Hendriks, 25, of Locust Valley, New York.
Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York, Pennsylvania.
Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman, 43, of Newark, Delaware.

These Marines were assigned to 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve.

Three U.S. service members and one contractor, an Afghan citizen, were injured in the incident.

“We feel and mourn the loss of these Americans with their families and loved ones. They volunteered to protect their country. We will continue our mission,” said Gen. Scott Miller, Commanding General of Resolute Support and United States Forces – Afghanistan.
