The U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit on Dec. 19 (local time), the service announced.
“The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows”, said a statement released by the U.S. 7th Fleet.
The statement added that the transit was in accordance with international law.
Like the previous transits by U.S. Navy vessels through the strait, this one will also likely anger China which considers Taiwan as a wayward province of “one China”.
