U.S. Service Member Dies in Afghanistan in Non-Combat Incident

A U.S. service member died due to wounds sustained from a non-combat incident while supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced.

The DoD identified the soldier as Spc. Miguel L. Holmes, 22, from Hinesville, Georgia. Holmes was assigned to 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (48th IBCT) “Macon Volunteers” based at Savannah, Georgia. 48th IBCT is a modular infantry brigade of the Georgia Army National Guard.

The incident is under investigation, said a DoD statement.
