U.S. Solider Dies in Afghanistan in ‘Non-Combat Related Incident’

The U.S. Department of Defense, on Feb. 13, announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan .

The deceased was identified as Spc. Branden Tyme Kimball, 21, from Central Point, Oregon. Kimball was assigned to the U.S. Army’s 3rd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade based at Fort Drum, New York.

According to a Pentagon statement, Spc. Kimball died on Feb. 12 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from ‘a non-combat related incident’. The statement added that the incident is under investigation.

Around 12,000 U.S. troops are currently serving in Afghanistan fighting terrorist groups and assisting local forces.

Including the new casualty, seven U.S. service members lost their lives in Afghanistan this year. Last year, the total U.S. combat casualties in the country was 22.
