U.S. Solider Dies in Iraq in “Non-Combat Related Incident”

The U.S. Department of Defense, on April 1, announced the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq.

The deceased was identified as Sgt. 1st Class John David Randolph Hilty, 44, from Bowie, Maryland. He died on March 30 in Erbil, Iraq, of a non-combat related incident, according to the Pentagon statement.

Hilty was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas.

“The incident is under investigation”, added the Pentagon statement. Further details of the incident, such as the cause of death, were not released.
