Aquila Aerospace LLC has signed a contract with the UAE Air Force (UAEAF) for the supply of one Bombardier Challenger 650 aircraft in multi-mission configuration.
UAE-based Aquila Aerospace will conduct the modification, integration, testing and certification of the aircraft, made by Canada’s Bombardier, at its modification center located at Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi. Aircraft modifications will meet the UAEAF requirements, including the installation of various sensors, mission operator stations, observation windows and air operable doors.
The modification will be done with the assistance of Bombardier’s Specialized Aircraft Division and the base airframe is expected to be delivered to the modification centre in 2019.
The aircraft will be capable of conducting maritime surveillance, search and rescue (SAR), command and control (C2), VIP transportation, medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
Homaid Al Shimmari, chairman of Aquila, said: “Aquila is the first and only modification centre in the Gulf region specifically focused on specialised derivatives of business aircraft. Aquila’s strength lies in offering a world-class service, indigenous capability complemented by the highest-calibre aviation professionals, partners and manufacturers.”
“This and future programmes will create a new approach to the dynamic international marketplace, whereby all parties mutually contribute and create solutions for a wide range of missions. Aquila aims to develop future C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) solutions based on well-established, cost-effective, long range and high-endurance business aircraft platforms.”
